Will I have support while taking the Online Course? Yes, you will be assigned one of our BPI -Building Analyst & Envelope Professionals as your own personal 'Mentor / Instructor'. They are available to you via emails, live chat and live Webinars to guide you through any questions or difficulties you might encounter.
Who is teaching this course? Our Instructors are listed on the About Us page, with their photos, bios and credentials. ThermalStar's instructors, mentors and developers are all active professionals working in the field, certified in multiple disciplines and continually learning themselves.
How is this better than a classroom course? If you have time to sit in a classroom for a week or more you would probably benefit more from a live class. We cannot duplicate the interaction with fellow students and live give and take of a classroom situation. However most of us cannot afford to take that much time off for one more certifications. With ThermalStar's mentored online learning experience you will get the certification you need. More importantly you will have the knowledge and training needed to perform as a BPI Certified professional, the most valued certification in the energy efficiency / building performance industry. ThermalStar also offers the give and take and personal learning experience through our mentoring and interactive webinars.
What is included? We send you a Course Manual with resource and reference materials as well as the Residential Energy Book from Saturn, the industry's reference. You will have instant access to our training web site and receive your mentor's name and contact information for questions and feedback.
Can I really learn online? Yes, with ThermalStar's unique curriculum and learning platform we have built the system for your success. Every chapter is narrated by one of our instructors and can be repeated as often as needed, you can fast forward/rewind, skip back/ahead by segment or drag the timeline forward/backwards. Each chapter has a reading assignment and a unique test to assess your understanding before moving on. Your mentor will see your test scores as you progress and proactively contact you with additional help if it looks like you're struggling with any subject.
How many tests are there? The ThermalStar program has 19 tests which includ; a Construction Math Assessment Test, 15 Chapter tests, a BPI Standards Test and 2 Final Tests. The 2 final tests are set up like the BPI Certification test; they have 100 questions each and a 2 hour time limit.
